How do I apply?

Your provisional licence

Once you've decided it's time to learn how to drive, you'll need to apply for your provisional licence. You can use a provisional licence once you turn 17, but you can apply for it up to 2 months before your Birthday.

You can apply for a provisional licence through the DVLA by clicking here.
To be eligible for a provisional licence in Britain you'll need to meet the following criteria:

  • Are you a resident of Great Britain?
  • Do you meet the minimum age requirement?
  • Do you meet the minimum eyesight requirement?
  • Are you not prevented from driving for any reason?
  • Are you able to pay £50.00 by debit or credit card?
  • Do you have a valid UK passport or another form of identity?
  • Can you provide addresses for where you have lived over the last 3 years

Upon learning to drive you'll need to sit a theory test, this is a series of questions designed to test your knowledge of things like road safety, hazardous driving, parking and much more.
